For Teroforma Avva Wood Salt and Pepper Mills, Olso-based designer Thea Mehl sought to design pieces that would sit firmly and compactly in the hand, and be visually subtle so they could remain on the table at all times.
Teroforma husband and wife team, Anna & Andrew Hellman, set out to make thoughtfully designed objects for the table. They quickly realized that what they set out to do would not be as important as how they would do it.
Over the course of 18 months, Teroforma visited countless studios and workshops throughout Europe, Asia and the US searching for the right kind of people to help bring their vision to life. Some visits were hilarious mistakes, others were unexpected triumphs. When it came time for Teroforma to begin the process of matching designer with artisan to create the elements of the Teroforma range, they couldn’t help but notice that something unique was happening. Through all the apparent differences of nationality and language and culture, and despite the sometimes vast gaps in distance and even age, the things that struck them were actually the amazing similarities among the people they had met.
Teroforma is a place where people can gather together, be who they are, pursue the things they believe in and create the things they can imagine. Telling the story of that creative process and the people involved is more than just a firm commitment to ethical practices and fair trade. It’s about giving credit where it’s due and offering customers a chance to look beyond the product to appreciate the process.
Collaborations to date with 22 artisans and designers in 14 different countries.
Use these Teroforma Avva Wood Salt and Pepper Mills for housing your Himalayan Pink Rock Salt or whole cloves. We love to pink a new salt or spice and keep it in the grinder for seasonal exploration. Give it a whirl, try a new spice every month to give your cooking a refresh.
