Rustichella d’ Abruzzo Primo Grano Sagne a Pezzi Pasta

Rustichella d’Abruzzo Primo Grano Sagne a Pezzi Pasta is traditionally served with a quick red sauce that’s been flavored with pork lard or a hunk of pancetta. The word “sagne” means a type of pasta found in Abruzzo and the mountains of Lazio. “Pezzi” means pieces, so literally translated it means “pieces of pasta”. It’s the pasta of the poor mixed only with wheat, salt and water, usually served with beans, like chickpeas, in a runny tomato sauce.

Ingredients: durum wheat semolina, water

Size: 500g

Location: Made in Italy

Rustichella d’Abruzzo owner Gianluigi Peduzzi has created a 100% Abruzzese durum wheat pasta similar to the one made by his grandfather, Gaetano Sergiacomo.

Primo Grano, meaning first grain, is a product based on Gianluigi’s love of quality and tradition. The pasta is connected entirely to local territory. Gianluigi has commissioned 14 farmers in Abruzzo to grow heirloom wheat varieties –San Carlo, Varano, Quadrato, Mongibello- to be used in the production of the Primo Grano pasta. The semolina is then ground using artisan methods.

These pastas taste best with simple ingredients, such as garlic, olive oil and Parmigiano-Reggiano to showcase the pasta. Available year round in limited production quantities.

The perfect pasta when you’re in the mood for pasta, butter and cheese, or a few cherry tomatoes, basil and olive oil.
