New 2010 Elena Walch Pinot Bianco Kastelaz

This 2010 Elena Walch Pinot Bianco Kastelaz is a soft white wine with pillow-y mango fruit. You’ll get a hint of honey and delicate flowers on the nose. This is a refined, intricately layered Pinot Bianco that will probably get better with a few years age even though it is certainly drinking great now.

Since leaving her career in architecture to become a wine maker in 1985, Elena Walch has become one of Italy’s most successful wine makers. She took on two different estates after marrying into one of the most well known wine making families in the region...the Tramin family: Castel Ringberg, a mild climate estate over looking a lake, and Kastelaz, a steep vineyard covered in cypress trees towering above the village center of Tramin.

With low-yielding vines and high quality clones, she has used the geography of her dual estates to her advantage by planting fragrant white wines on the higher sites, while planting the full-bodied reds in the warm, lower slopes.

Goat cheese and greens salad or savory chevre panna cotta.
