Varietal: Kerner
Region: Alto Adige
Size: 750ml
Located at 1,800 feet above sea level in the Isarco Valley of the Alto Adige region, Abbazia di Novacella is Italy’s northernmost winery. Founded by Augustinian monks in 1142, the Abbey was the home of a small college where many studied the art of viticulture and winemaking. Today, there are still 26 monks on the premises and the farm currently yields all types of fruits including their beloved wine grapes. With three major vineyards in the cool climate of Alto Adige, they are able to produce a variety of grapes from Pinot Noir and Lagrein to Sylvaner, Kerner and Gewurztraminer. With the reconciliation of the antiquated traditions of The Abbey and the new modern steal barrels used for aging, the result is a harmony of rich, vibrant and aromatic wines.
We like this 2008 Cantina Valle Isarco Kerner with light fish dishes that have a floral element or butter lettuce based salads with a sweeter vinaigrette.
