New 2007 Roccolo Grassi Valpolicella Superiore Red Wine from Veneto

We prefer this 2007 Roccolo Grassi Valpolicella Superiore to his Amarone as a food wine. Though it has a bit more acid and subdued fruit, this red wine is made with 60% dried grapes and 40% that undergo normal vinification. Better than any ripasso you have ever had.

Grapes: Corvina, Corvinone, Rhondinella, Croatina

Since 1996, Roccolo Grassi has been Bruno Sartori’s most successful vineyard. While the estate prides themselves on their Amarones, they also have vineyards in Valpolicella and the Soave D.O.C., just to the east, allowing the them fruits of both reds and whites. Of their 32 acres, 22 are dedicated to reds, the most sought after being the Amarone. Combining both new and old world technique, they plant all traditional Italian varietals but their Vinification is more innovative, putting to use newer technology to control temperatures and create ideal aging conditions

Try it with hearty beef stews and roasts, braised duck or creamy saltier cheeses.
