It really needs a few years to reach its potential but when it does it is a delight. As with the current trend in Piedmont, this wine is aged in newer oak barriques which impart a more tannic structure and eventually a nice vanilla finish.
Varietal: Barbera
Region: Piedmont
Size: 750ml
It wasn't until 1964 when Renato Cigliuti inherited the estate he stopped collecting and selling grapes to local winemakers and began bottling the first of his families own wine. Now The Fratelli Cigliuti winery, in its fifth generation, daughters Claudia and Silvia Cigliuti manage 6.5 hectares a vineyards to produce nearly 30,000 bottles of wine a year. At 350 meters above sea level a variety of grapes from Barbaresco to Nebbiolo yield some of the finest wines in the Langhe region of Piedmonte.
We like this 2006 Cigliuti Barbera d'Alba Serraboella with Veal tortelloni or chicken with a mexican mole sauce.
