This 2004 Franz Gojer Merlot Spitz Red Wine from Alto Adige has a big blackberry nose. Its still got the silky texture of a merlot, but the high altitude of the terroir allows it to be much more delicate and refined.

Since the 1830s, the Gojer family has been farming their humble 5 hectares of land in Alto Adige at the heart of the Santa Maddalena region. Schiava, the DOC’s native grape, thrives in the red porphyry acidic soils native to this terroir, producing soft and extremely perfumed flavors that are a perfect compliment to heartier dishes.


We like this 2004 Franz Gojer Merlot Spitz with a truffle topped piedmonte beef filet and a side of pan seared escarole.
