Its got long, persistent tannins and the typical French oak finish (did anyone say vanilla?) Under this enormously powerful structure is a layer of dark cherry fruit and hint of balsamic. It's quite the amalgamation of characteristics.
Size: 750ml
Region: Piedmont
Grapes: Nebbiolo
Founded in 1890 after Giacomo Damilano married Borgogno, Damilano winery is one of the oldest produces of Barolo in all of Piedmont. While they started producing wines just after the end of WWII, their current facility was not developed until 1965. Up until the mid 90s the winery was managed by the 6 sons of Giacomo until 1997 when the reins were shifted to the younger generations where they decided to restore the brand to its original state, focusing on some of their regions more traditionally successful varietals. They began experimenting by blending Barolos from different sources, which to their surprise and enjoyment, was a major success and lead the Damilano brand to gain the recognition it holds today.
We love this 2004 Damilano Barolo “Liste” with a big, fatty beef filet and a few shaved truffles if you want to get fancy. After all, it is a Barolo.
