It wasn't until Alfonso Ferrio was able to purchase the farmhouse far up a hill along a road that leads from Canale to Asti, that Cascina Ca'Rossa found its origins. Hit hard in the depression of the 60's, he decided to capitalize of the vineyards already growing his land to save his family. Taking advantage of the native grapes like Nebbiolo, Barbera and Brachetto, he began producing wine to be sold and traded locally. In 1995 they released their first official bottling upon which they begin acquiring new land to expand their production. Now Ca'Rossa is able to produce some of Roero’s most celebrated wines.
We like this 2004 Cascina Ca’ Rossa Roero Mompissano with an earthy truffle pizza or a corn and bacon quiche.
