New 1999 Bressan Pignolo Red Wine from Friuli

This 1999 Bressan Pignolo is a medium bodied red wine with a slightly softer structure than some Pignolo's that we've had and it’s more layered than a set of Russian dolls. You can look forward to dried cherries, allspice, pine needles, black pepper and a little cigar smoke for good measure.

Owning around 20 hectares in the Friuili-Venezia Giula appellation in North-Eastern Italy The Bressan family focuses on producing indigenous varieties that are actually quite rare to come by and often yields vintages that stretch back as far as 1999. While Fulvio Bressan claims that he is neither "organic" nor "bio-dynamic," he also makes it clear that the standards and regulations he imposes upon himself are often more strict than the regulations imposed by many of the known certifications. His greatest goal, and the driving force behind his production, is to avoid the use of chemicals in the fields and the cellars in order to maintain authenticity to the grapevine and it's unique characteristics.

This one works solo but if you're really hungry, think herb based dishes and stay away from rare beef.
