Sin by Virginia Sin Paper Plates Each plate is one-of-a-kind, individually slab-rolled & handmade by Virginia sin. Slight warping, irregularities, asymmetry are intentional. Having trouble deciding which finish to get? Some customers like the glossy more because of the irony, while others appreciate the matte since it does tend to trick the eye and looks much like the actual paper plate from far away. depends on what look/concept you prefer ––They are both dishwasher and microwave safe though. Or you can order a little of both.
How are these plates handmade? All “paper plates” are hand-built using a special slab-work technique and not by a mold or slip-casted. due to their indentations however, they are often misunderstood as slip-casted/made from a mold. Therefore, each piece is truly one-of-a-kind and handmade. All irregularities and imperfections are traces of “human-ness”. These idiosyncrasies are what make each piece beautiful and unique.
What is that strange uneven texture i see embedded throughout the clay? You are referring to the part of the material that makes this product sustainable and unique from other porcelain ware. The texture is the burnout from the recycled paper plates-and-porcelain clay mixture that is intrinsic to how these are sustainable as well as unique form typical porcelain tableware. The burnout occurs during the firings and creates a pattern formed by the recycled paper pulp. all aspects of the design, materials, process, and results are intentional. The burnout may also be more noticeable on the backside since Virginia does not glaze the bottom of her slab-ware.
